Killing Eve is a British black comedy-drama spy thriller television series, produced in the United Kingdom by Sid Gentle Films. Based on the Villanelle novel series by Luke Jennings, the series follows Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), a British intelligence investigator tasked with capturing psychopathic assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). As the chase progresses, the two develop a mutual obsession.

The critically acclaimed series has earned several Emmy nominations over the last 3 years and it was renewed for a fourth run in January 2020, months before the third season hit the air on April 12.

“How could we not have massive confidence in Killing Eve? It has won big in every major award show and is the highest growing show on U.S. television for six years,” Sarah Barnett, the president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios, said in a statement.

“The reason for this series’ emphatic embrace is the brilliant women who breathed it into being: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell, Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Fiona Shaw and it’s fairy godmother, executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle. Season 3 lead writer Suzanne Heathcote takes Eve, Villanelle, and Carolyn to places more thrilling, twisted, and surprising than ever. Our addicted fans will not be disappointed.”

“I am beyond thrilled that we can continue our extraordinary journey. It is a testament to everyone involved that we have been picked up so early-the magnificent actors, writers, directors, and production team. We are extremely lucky to work with such fierce and dedicated people.”

Here’s everything we know about the fourth run.

Cast And Production Details

Each season of Killing Eve has had a different woman at its helm, and the fourth is no different. Writer, Laura Neal will serve as showrunner for the next season.

“After the most incredible year on Killing Eve, I’m so excited the next season is going to be led by such a brilliant talent,” Heathcote said. “I cannot wait to see what amazing things Laura’s going to do with this world and the characters in it.”

Executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle also teased: “Laura is frighteningly bright, takes no prisoners and can laugh at anything,” Gentle said in a statement, per Deadline. “She’s wicked and wild, emotional and provocative. The stories we are already creating for season four promise a pitch-black riot.”

Killing Eve smashes television tropes in every way, both on the screen and behind it,” said AMC’s Sarah Barnett following the announcement.

“We have a remarkable squad of ferociously smart women writers passing the baton to each other on this show, aligned around a coherent vision but bringing it to life with their own specific sparkle and brilliance. Laura Neal is the latest incredible leader of the pack on Killing Eve.”

Of course, the show wouldn’t be what it is without Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. Other members of the cast Fiona Shaw, Kim Bodnia, Gemma Whelan, Camille Cottin, Danny Sapani, Turlough Convery, and Ayoola Smart will also return.

Although it doesn’t feel like Niko (Owen McDonnell), Eve’s husband will be joining the next chapter considering he’s probably have had enough of her.

“We really wanted Niko to have the power to walk away and to say ‘piss off’ rather than him being dispatched by a third party,” executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle told Entertainment Weekly.

“And I think that’s really important for Eve’s psyche as well. She gets wounded twice, really. She wounded by somebody trying to kill her husband, and then she’s wounded by the fact that her husband has told her to piss off, which arguably he should have done a lot earlier.

“Who the devil knows [if he’ll be back]? He’s not dead, as far as we know.”

Filming Delay And Plot Factors

Killing Eve is known for its international setup. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, though, it may be difficult for season 4 of Killing Eve to have a similar shoot. According to Deadline, filming was intended to resume in August. However, in June of 2020, filming for the drama’s fourth season was delayed again.

Killing Eve shoots across multiple European locations,” a spokesperson said. “Due to the uncertainty of the world as a result of COVID-19, no shooting schedules for Killing Eve season four have been locked in at this point and there are various scenarios in play.”

During a BAFTA Q&A, Heathcote teased that the writers penning season four will “take it somewhere new, which involves taking risks. You just can’t tread water”.

During an interview with Gold Derby, Oh confessed that Eve wasn’t set for a happily ever after of any kind. She told:

“I don’t know if a fulfilling life is in her cards. One of the things that I really love so much about the show is it will give the time and space for a character to figure out her own life — but that doesn’t necessarily mean a happy ending,” she explained.

“She left actively and she was also pulled away from and so by the end of it, I think that she has a much more poetic but — what’s the word — realistic outlook on her life, and it’s a little bleak.”

And that is it!! personally, I think that Eve did not get the spotlight she deserved in the previous season. Let’s hope that changes in the next one. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
